To find the number less than x you have to subtract with the larger number .
8.0-2.5 = 5.5
Find the number that greater than x you have to add those to number
8.0+2.5 = 10.5
So
5.5

because it is longer than 8 but if you add the 2.5 to it it is shorter than 10.5
