Cohabitation where two people make a long-term commitment but do not get legally married is called a Substitute Marriage Cohabitation. This type of cohabitation is usually preferred by people who had been previously married, particularly those whose previous marriage ended painfully. They live together as if they are married but they do not go through a legal ceremony.
