Find the value of two numbers if their sum is 78 and their difference is 22.

x+y=78
x-y=22
Make x the subject
22+y=x
substitute in 1st equation
(22+y)+y=78
22+2y=78
y=28
place 28 in any equation
x-(28)=22
x=50
therefore one value is 28 and the other is 50
