Most organisms,
including humans, need to maintain a certain pH within a fairly, narrow range
in order to sustain life. This is achieved through a compound called buffer
that can resist changes in pH, which is key to maintaining stable hydrogen
ions. For instance, human blood needs to keep its pH at around 7.4 so human can
survive.
