You can add the two fractions by turning 1/2 and 5/6 to have the same denominator.

Turn 1/2 into a fraction with a denominator of 6.
It would equal 3/6

5/6+ 3/6= 8/6

That simplifies to 1 1/3.

Hope this helps you!
