There are 19 animal in the barn.some are geese and some are oxen . There are 70 leg in all. How many of each animal are there

There are 3 geese and 16 oxen.

x is the number of geese and y is the number oxen.
x+y=19
2x+4y=70

Solve by substitution:
y= -x+19
2x+4(-x+19)=70
2x-4x=-6
x=3
3+y=19
y=16
