8y - 3 = 6y + 17    (add 3 to each side)

8y = 6y + 17 + 3

8y = 6y + 20     (subtract 6y from each side)

8y - 6y = 20

2y = 20       (divide 2 from each side)

2y/2 = 20/2

y = 10

The answer is y = 10
