At the dawn of the Space Age, Katherine Johnson, the legendary NASA mathematician, was responsible for calculating the flight pattern for astronaut John Glenn’s famous orbit around the Earth. She also helped with several Apollo spacecraft missions, and even helped NASA later switch to electronic computers. In 2015, Johnson received the Presidential Medal Of Freedom for her hard work.
