George Grenville was the British Prime Minister that defended the policy of taxing the American Colonies following the Sugar Act of 1764 and the Stamp Act of 1765. Grenville defended taxation because he believed that Britain got a large debt fighting the war that protected the colonies, so the colonies should help Britain pay the debt as a form of compensation.
