Wilson couldn't really be trusted much because he came from a country that didn't suffer any destruction of property or deaths of civilians as it was isolated on a separate continent. The allies however suffered fully from the war and could empathize with each other. That's why when they wanted Germany to suffer much more than Wilson did.
