The most legitimate criticism of King is that he was controlled opposition, basically, he was allowed to lead the civil rights movement (while the government assassinated others like Malcom X) because he preached nonviolence. This doesn't make him a "fraud" and it's interesting to note he was still killed shortly after the civil rights act was passed.
