It tries to maintain the normal temperature of the metals used.
There are two ways the Scientific and the Normal.( for a lack of better word)
Normal: The heat escapes into space.
Scientific: As the molecules of the element heat up and vibrate for long periods they lose heat so they return to their original temperature (at least try to)
