if x=√10 - 2 √2 find x^2 + 1/x^2​

You already know what x is so just substitute in.
x^2 + 1/x^2
= (√10 - 2√2)^2 + 1/(√10 - 2√2)^2

= (18 - 8√5) + 1/(18 - 8√5)

= (45-12√5)/2
