Suppose, they drove for = x+24 km
they walked for = x km

Now, x+x+24 = 48
2x = 48-24
x = 24/2
x= 12

So, they walked for 12 Km.

Hope this helps!

We can represent variable w for the kilometers walked.
"24 kilometers more than they walked" would mean 24+w.
Thus, the equation we create would be:
24+w+w=48.
Combine like terms.
24+2w=48.
Subtract 24 from both sides.
2w=24.
Divide by 2 on both sides in order to isolate w.
w=12.

They each walked 12 kilometers.
