The voyage was called the Middle Passage.
It referred to the part of the trade where Africans were transported across the Atlantic to the West Indies. It was named like that because it as the middle section of the trade route taken by many of the ships. The voyage took three to four months and, during that time, the enslaved people lived in those ships.
