This is an example of irony, irony is the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect. The doctor is supposed to heal/help people with illnesses, but now that he’s ill, it represents irony.
And example of irony because the doctor is supposed to treat ill people who come into the hospital but now the doctor is the ill one
