If we drop a perpendicular line from one of the vertices to the opposite side it will form 2 right angled triangles ( 30 - 60 - 90 degrees).

The ratio of the sides of these triangles is 2:1:√3   where 2 is the hypotenuse and √3 is the altitude.

So here the hypotenuse is 4 (2*2)  so the altitude is 2*√3.
