Negative exponents work like this:

[tex]a^{-b}=\dfrac{1}{a^b}[/tex]

So, they work like positive exponents, but you have to invert the base.

If you invert 1/6 you get 6, so you have

[tex]\left(\dfrac{1}{6}\right)^{-x}=6^x[/tex]
