I believe the answer is: Overestimate

People who are extremely nervous tend to start their activities on the assumption that they would make mistakes along the way and they should deal with it. This would make them overestimate every action done by their audience. For example, when they see the audiences smile because of something funny, nervous people may interpret it as snickering at them.
