If 2a+3b=12, and 3b-4=2, then what is the value of a? please show work

Add 4 to the second equation to get
.. 3b = 6
Substitute this into the first equation to get
.. 2a +6 = 12
.. 2a = 6 . . . . . . . subtract 6
.. a = 3 . . . . . . . . divide by 2

The value of a is 3.
