Brezhnev was the leader of the Soviet Union from1964 to 1982. Brezhnev passed many repressive laws that ensured little opposition, but without violence unlike Stalin. He organized agriculture around less productive collective farms. He reversed many liberalizing policies and more cultural reforms initiated by Khrushchev by clamping down on media. Later in life, he famously awarded himself with several rare medals.
