If a roll of cloth is 15 metres long and three quarters of the cloth is used, and you would like to know how much is left, you can calculate this using the following steps:

three quarters of 15 metres = 3/4 * 15 metres = 45/4 metres = 11.25 metres is used

15 metres - 11.25 metres = 3.75 metres is left

The result is 3.75 metres or 3 3/4 metres.
