Please help me with the following. In 1971 a dollar was worth a dollar and gold was $35.00 per ounce. Today on January 6th, let say that a dollar is worth a dollar. Gold is now $2,045 per ounce. Can anyone explain this to me? Did the dollar devalue 98%? Why does a dollar buy 98% less gold now?
