YWXZ is a rhombus with diagonals that intersect at point S. Side WX measures 4a + 12. Side XZ measures 6a. Find the value of a.

The rhombus is quadrilateral whose:

i) diagonals are perpendicular

AND

ii) lengths of all sides are equal.


So, by the definition of being a rhombus, |WX|=|XZ|

thus, 

4a+12=6a
12=2a
a=6
