substitute (1) into (2)

2(30)+x = 64

60+x = 64

x = 64-60

x = 4

substitute x=4 into (1)

3x+9y = 30

12+9y = 30

9y = 30-12

9y = 18

y = 18/9

y = 2

thus, x = 4 and y = 2
