Calcium hydroxide  = Ca(OH)₂

Water  = H₂O

An Arrhenius base is a substance which interacts with water to yield excess hydroxide ions, OH⁻ in an aqueous solution.

  The reaction in water;

               

           Ca(OH)₂   →  Ca²⁺  + 2OH⁻

The medium of this reaction is water.
