250,000 in scientific notation is 2.5 × [tex]10^{5}[/tex]

First, you want to move the decimal point 5 places to the right because in order to turn a number into scientific notation, the decimal needs to be in the range of 1 and 9.

Finally,  we are left with two numbers which are 2 and 5. We moved the decimal to the left of 5 so in scientific notation, the number would be

2.5 × [tex]10^{5}[/tex]
