The equation 2(m-8)+3=17 has more than one solution method. Give at least two different "first steps" to solve this equation.

1. you could distribute the 2 which would give you 2m - 16 + 3 = 17
2. You could add the 2 and 3 together and the problem would be 5(m - 8) = 17
