No, and therefore, the answer to a negative square root will be "i" which stands for "imaginary" (a group of numbers).


Example:

[tex]\sqrt{-2} = i[/tex]

Only if you define it into existence. The square root of a negative number is does not exist in the real world.

√(-1) is defined to be i
