1) Starting pointL inequality (1/2)y + 6 < 0

2) subtract 6 from both sides:

(1/2)y + 6 - 6 < 0 - 6

(1/2) y < - 6

3) multiply both sides by 2:

(2)(1/2)y < - (2) (6)

y  <  -12

4) That is all real numbers less than  - 12:

Equivalent to ( - ∞ , - 12) or { y ∈ R | y < - 12}
